Registration as a registered qualified individual runs for two years. Renewal costs $200, you file it yourself through Bizfile using Singpass, and approval is immediate. If you let it lapse, you cannot file transactions for CSP clients, and you may be looking at a fresh registration rather than a renewal.
Raffles Corporate Services works with a panel of experienced Singapore law firms who offer cost-effective and efficient legal service and advice. This article is general information only and is not legal advice.
The important word in all of that is yourself. Your RQI registration belongs to you, not to the firm that appointed you. Your employer cannot renew it, cannot chase it on your behalf inside the system, and cannot fix it after the fact. If you move firms, your registration moves with you. If you let it slide, the consequence lands on you first and your firm second.
Most RQIs understand that in the abstract. Very few have the renewal date in their own diary rather than someone else’s.
What it costs and how long it takes
| What you need to know | Details |
|---|---|
| Fee | $200 |
| Refunds | None, including for a rejected application, early de-registration, or a cancellation by ACRA |
| Validity after renewal | Two years from the date of approval |
| Processing time | Immediate |
| Login | Individual user, through Singpass |
| Who may file | The RQI personally |
Immediate processing is the pleasant surprise here. Unlike the CSP firm renewal, which sits in a 14-day endorsement cycle before ACRA reviews it, an RQI renewal completes when you pay. You tick the declaration, pay, and the confirmation and receipt appear straight away, followed by a notification in your Bizfile inbox.
That speed is precisely why there is no excuse for letting the date pass. This is a fifteen-minute task.
What you must still satisfy
Renewal re-tests your eligibility rather than simply extending it. Four conditions sit behind the transaction.
Your registration has not expired. ACRA’s eligibility criteria for renewal are framed around a live registration. Treat expiry as the point at which the renewal route is no longer reliably available to you, and read the section below on what happens if you are already past it.
You still meet the requirements in the Corporate Service Regulations 2025. These are the subsidiary legislation made under the Corporate Service Providers Act 2024, and they set the substantive standards for qualified individuals. Read them rather than assuming. Qualification frameworks move, and a route that qualified you two years ago is worth confirming.
You still meet the fit and proper criteria. This is the one that is easy to skim past and hardest to fix late. Fit and proper is a continuing standard, not an entry test. If anything has happened in the last two years that touches on your integrity, your conduct or your professional standing, it is relevant now.
You are appointed or employed by a registered CSP. An RQI in a vacuum cannot file. You need a CSP relationship, and it needs to be current.
Get your particulars in order first
Before you start the renewal, your RQI record must be current. Your name, identification details, nationality, address, contact number, email and, above all, your qualifications and their supporting documents.
Changes to those carry their own 14-day deadline independently of renewal, so if something is out of date you are already late on a separate obligation. Our guide on notifying ACRA of changes in CSP or RQI particulars sets out exactly what falls into that list and which eService handles it.
Fix the particulars first, then renew. The renewal screen will invite you to update your information before continuing, and taking that detour mid-transaction is slower than doing it properly beforehand.
You should also have your supporting documents for qualifications and professional memberships to hand before you start, not halfway through.
The steps, in order
- Log in to Bizfile as an individual user through Singpass. Not Corppass. This is a personal registration, so it uses your personal login. If you habitually log in as a business user to file for clients, this will feel wrong the first time. Our note on logging in to Bizfile as an individual covers the distinction.
- From the Manage menu, open the corporate service provider section and select the renewal transaction for registered qualified individuals.
- Start the transaction, then check your RQI information carefully. If anything is wrong, stop and file the change through General Lodgement first.
- Select your professional qualifications from the list, ticking each that applies, and save. Be accurate here rather than generous. This is the record ACRA will hold you to.
- Check the renewal period shown. Your renewed term is calculated from your existing registration expiry date rather than from the day you happen to be sitting at the screen, so renewing early does not cost you time.
- Review, tick the declaration, and proceed to payment. Read the declaration rather than clicking through it. You are certifying your continued eligibility.
- Pay the $200 and download the receipt. Keep it. A confirmation message appears on screen and a notification lands in your Bizfile inbox.
What happens after approval
ACRA reviews your conduct and compliance history as an RQI, including any professional misconduct such as breach of fiduciary duty or serious negligence. Approval is not the end of the story, because being registered and being able to file are two different things.
To actually file transactions on Bizfile after renewal, you need all of the following to be true:
- You are appointed, employed or engaged by a registered CSP, or you are a registered CSP yourself
- You have endorsed your appointment after the CSP appoints you
- Your CSP has added the relevant clients to its client list
That third condition trips up newly renewed RQIs who have also changed firms. You can be perfectly registered, correctly appointed and still unable to file for a particular company because the CSP has not added it to the client list. Our guides on appointing and withdrawing RQIs and on maintaining CSP client lists in Bizfile cover both halves of that.
If you have already let it expire
Here you need to be careful, because ACRA’s published guidance is not entirely consistent on this point. Its eligibility criteria are framed around a registration that has not expired, while elsewhere it describes a window of 60 calendar days running from the expiry date. What is clear is that once your registration expires your status shows as expired, you cannot file transactions for CSP clients, and the route back may be a fresh registration as an RQI rather than a renewal.
The practical advice writes itself. Do not find out which reading applies to you. Renew before expiry.
If you are already past the date, contact ACRA directly and do it the same day rather than assuming a grace period will hold. The difference between a $200 renewal and a fresh registration is not only the fee. It is the documents, the assessment and the time during which you cannot work on client filings.
What goes wrong in practice
The firm assumed the RQI was handling it, and the RQI assumed the firm was. This is the classic, and it is structural rather than careless. Every other compliance date in a CSP practice sits with the firm. This one does not. Someone in the firm should track RQI expiry dates as a management matter while knowing perfectly well they cannot file them.
The qualification documents are stale. You completed a course, joined a professional body, or let a membership lapse, and none of it reached your ACRA record. At renewal you are selecting qualifications against a record that no longer describes you. Update the record first.
The RQI logs in as a business user and cannot find the transaction. Personal registration, personal login. If you cannot see the renewal, check which login you used before you conclude the system is broken.
Renewal is left until the firm’s own renewal is due. A CSP renewal requires its appointed RQIs to be active and to endorse within 14 days. An RQI whose own registration has lapsed is not in a position to do that, and a single lapsed RQI can therefore sink a firm-level renewal that cost $400. See renewing CSP registration for how tightly those two processes are coupled.
Fit and proper is treated as a formality. It is a continuing standard. If something has happened that a regulator would want to know about, dealing with it openly is better than hoping the renewal screen does not ask. Our Corporate Service Providers Act 2024 compliance FAQ covers the wider expectations on individuals under the regime.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to renew RQI registration?
$200, paid at the end of the transaction in Bizfile. There are no refunds, including for a rejected application, early de-registration or a cancellation of registration by ACRA. Approval is immediate once payment goes through, and you can download a receipt on the confirmation screen.
Can my firm renew my RQI registration for me?
No. RQI registration is personal. You log in to Bizfile as an individual user through Singpass and file it yourself. Your firm can remind you and can track the date, but it cannot complete the transaction, and it cannot fix a lapse afterwards.
How long does the renewed registration last?
Two years. The renewed term is calculated from your existing registration expiry date rather than the day you file, so renewing early does not shorten your term. That removes any reason to leave it until the last week.
What happens if my RQI registration expires?
Your status shows as expired and you cannot file transactions for CSP clients. ACRA’s guidance is not fully consistent on whether a short window to renew survives expiry, so do not rely on one. Contact ACRA immediately, and expect that a fresh registration may be required.
Do I need to be with a CSP to renew?
Yes. You must be appointed or employed by a registered CSP. After renewal, filing also requires that you have endorsed your appointment and that the CSP has added the relevant client to its client list. Registration alone does not give you filing ability.
What if my qualifications have changed since I registered?
File the change first. Qualifications and their supporting documents are part of your RQI particulars and carry a 14-day notification deadline of their own. Renewing against an out-of-date qualification record creates a mismatch that is much harder to unwind than it is to prevent.
Put the date in your own diary
Raffles Corporate Services is a registered CSP, and the discipline we apply internally is simple: RQI expiry dates sit on the firm’s compliance calendar and in each individual’s personal diary, at twelve weeks, four weeks and one week out. Two reminders in two places, because the obligation genuinely sits in two places.
If you are an RQI approaching renewal, or a firm that has realised nobody is tracking these dates, the fix is a calendar entry and an hour of record-checking. Our guide to registering as a qualified individual covers what the registration requires in the first place, which is also what you must continue to satisfy.
