Use the correct route for passport number and expiry
MOM’s EP update guidance says passport number and expiry date can be updated instantly through the EP eService; written requests for those two changes are no longer accepted. It also states that automated-gate clearance at local checkpoints is available four working days after the update. Plan against the current guidance, not an assumed immediate gate update.

A professional renews a passport after changing their name. Updating the number alone leaves another discrepancy. MOM provides a separate online request route for other particulars, supported by documents such as the passport and evidence of the name change. Check the current requirements for the actual change.
Prepare the information securely
- The new passport’s biodata page.
- Existing FIN and EP details.
- Old passport details where needed to trace the change.
- Evidence supporting any separate personal-particular change.
- Upcoming travel dates.
- An authorised employer or agent contact if assistance is required.
Use the official service and limit circulation of identity documents. Do not send passport scans to an unverified address simply because someone offers a faster update.
Retain confirmation and check for mismatches
Save the actual transaction result and review the updated information. A drafted email or a service screen opened by an agent does not prove the update was completed. If the details remain inconsistent, contact the appropriate official channel before relying on them for travel.
Do not confuse a passport update with a pass renewal
A new passport does not extend an EP, change its sponsoring employer or approve a new job. Keep the pass-expiry and renewal timetable separate. Company ownership also does not give the holder permission to work for another entity.
Coordinate related records carefully
After the official update, identify employer and other records that genuinely need correction. Supply only the information each organisation requires. Dependants’ records should be reviewed separately if their documents changed; do not assume the main holder’s transaction updates every family member.
