If you change jobs while a PR application is pending, keep ICA’s employment information accurate and review your work-pass arrangements separately. A new employer letter saved on your computer does not update the submitted application.
Raffles Corporate Services works with a panel of experienced Singapore law firms who offer cost-effective and efficient legal service and advice. This article is general information only and is not legal advice.
ICA’s employment and salary update FAQ directs applicants to “Update information” in the case summary of the e-Service. Use the current official process for your login and application.
Record what has actually changed
Identify the previous employer, last employment date, new employer, role, salary and actual start date. Distinguish a signed offer from employment that has begun. If the move is delayed, keep the chronology accurate.
Compare the change with the employment details originally submitted. A concise update should explain the new facts without rewriting the applicant’s earlier history.
Example: the offer is signed but the new pass is pending
An EP holder resigns and receives an offer from another employer, while the new pass application remains pending. The PR file should distinguish those stages. It should not describe the person as already working for the new company merely because an offer exists.
Collect the current supporting records
- Previous employment cessation evidence where relevant.
- New employment agreement or employer letter.
- Current salary and role details.
- Actual start date and relevant payslips.
- Work-pass status and official outcomes.
- The original PR reference and submitted information.
Check the e-Service’s actual document requests. Do not rely on a generic checklist copied from an older application or assume that every possible file must be uploaded.
Keep PR and work-pass actions separate
An ICA update does not issue an EP. A new EP does not, by itself, prove that the pending PR file has been updated. Coordinate the employer, applicant and advisers so both records reflect the facts.
Check lawful stay and permission to work during any transition. Do not assume a pending PR application supplies a replacement for an expiring or cancelled work pass.
Submit an accurate update through the case
Use the correct application reference and the official case-summary process. Review the details before sending and preserve the update record. If the service does not offer the expected option or the circumstances are unusual, seek official guidance rather than sending information to an unverified address.
Do not submit a fresh duplicate application merely to change a job detail without reviewing the proper process.
Avoid predictions about the outcome
A job change can have many commercial or personal reasons. Explain those facts where relevant, but do not promise that a higher salary will improve the result or that any employment move will automatically cause rejection. ICA makes the assessment.
Does notifying the employer also notify ICA?
Do not assume so. Use the applicable ICA update process and retain evidence.
Should a planned job be shown as current employment?
Present its actual stage and dates accurately.
