A Creditor Objects to Your Company’s Strike-Off: Prepare the Response File

Two people reviewing documents at a table

If a creditor objects to your company’s strike-off, obtain the official notice and review the underlying claim promptly. Do not assume the objection disappears because trading has stopped.

The closure process and the commercial dispute require coordinated attention. Legal advisers can help assess liability and the response.

Read the official notice first

Confirm the company UEN, objector, reason, dates and stated action. Review ACRA’s current strike-off process for the application date concerned, including the transition applying to applications from 20 October 2026.

ACRA explains that unresolved accepted objections can cause the process to lapse. Work from the actual notice rather than assuming a private negotiation extends official time.

Example: the supplier invoice is disputed

The company believes the goods were defective, while the supplier claims full payment. Collect the contract, delivery and complaint evidence. A dispute should be explained and assessed, not concealed by removing the creditor from the ledger.

Build a claim reconciliation

Distinguish an undisputed balance from amounts genuinely contested. Ask the accountant to reconcile the books without determining legal liability from an accounting label alone.

Document the actual resolution

If settlement is agreed, obtain properly reviewed terms and retain payment or performance evidence. Review the official objection process and the applicable clearance steps.

A promise that the creditor will withdraw is different from evidence that the required official action occurred. Keep both the agreement and the outcome.

Reassess whether strike-off remains appropriate

Outstanding liabilities or legal proceedings can affect eligibility. If the company cannot settle obligations, obtain advice on the appropriate insolvency or closure route.

Do not submit a fresh application with the same unresolved issue merely to restart the process.

Does stopping business defeat the creditor’s claim?

No. Review the actual obligation and dispute.

Does a settlement email prove the objection is cleared?

Confirm the relevant official outcome separately.
