The Job Advertisement Changes Before an EP Application: Rebuild the Recruitment Timeline

Colleagues discussing documents in a meeting

If a MyCareersFuture advertisement changes during recruitment, review the EP application timetable again. Do not assume time spent advertising the earlier version automatically satisfies the requirements for the changed vacancy.

MOM’s fair-consideration instructions for EP applications require a new advertisement when advertisement details change, with another 14 consecutive days before submission. Review the actual requirements and any valid exemption on the facts.

Identify the change and its reason

Compare the original and proposed advertisement, including employer, occupation, salary, vacancies and duties. Keep the versions and publication dates. A change described informally as “just an edit” may still affect the applicable process.

Check that the revised advertisement reflects the genuine vacancy. The recruitment team should not tailor requirements retrospectively to exclude candidates after selecting someone.

Example: the role becomes more senior

An employer advertises a role and later decides it needs a more senior employee at a higher salary. The company should align the revised duties, salary and advertisement before assessing the timetable. An offer based on the revised role should not be treated as though it came from an unchanged vacancy.

Create one recruitment timeline

Use actual portal records, not an intended posting date. If an advertisement closes or expires, review whether it can still be used under the current rules.

Consider candidates for the actual role

Evaluate applications fairly against the revised job-related requirements. Retain an accurate record of the consideration process and reasons for decisions. An advertisement is not merely a waiting period before submitting a predetermined candidate.

Where earlier applicants may remain relevant, ensure the recruitment review reflects the change. Do not invent interview records or rejection reasons to make the file appear complete.

Align the salary and company information

The advertisement should use the correct hiring entity and details. Check the salary offered to the EP candidate against the advertisement and current pass requirements. A group company’s advertisement should not be substituted without assessing the actual employer.

Review exemptions carefully where claimed. An exemption from advertising does not remove the requirement to practise fair hiring.

Give the pass preparer the final record

Provide the correct advertisement reference, versions, dates and vacancy information. Confirm the earliest appropriate submission timing before promising a start date. If the role changes again, review the process again instead of relying on the earlier timeline.

Can the original advertising days be counted automatically?

Follow the stated new-advertisement requirement for changed details. Do not assume the earlier version settles it.

Does completing the advertising duration guarantee an EP?

No. Advertising and fair consideration are part of the process; the pass has its own eligibility assessment.
