A PR Employer Letter Conflicts with Payslips: Resolve the Salary Evidence Before Submission

Singapore waterfront and business district

If a PR employment letter shows a salary different from the payslips, reconcile the evidence before submitting it. Identify the period, basic pay, gross pay and any changes. A genuine difference can often be explained; leaving contradictory figures without explanation creates avoidable uncertainty.

The ICA document checklist asks for a current-employer letter describing occupation, employment date and basic and gross monthly salary, together with the relevant payslips. Use the current checklist for the actual application.

Check what each figure represents

A contract may show basic pay, while a payslip includes allowances, overtime, commission or deductions. Identify those components separately. Do not assume gross earnings in one unusual month are the agreed basic monthly salary.

Review effective dates where the applicant received an increment or changed roles. A letter reflecting current salary can differ from earlier payslips, but the file should explain the chronology accurately.

Example: a recent increment and older payslips

The applicant’s salary increased recently, while several payslips cover the earlier rate. Keep the amendment and distinguish the two periods. Do not ask payroll to regenerate historic payslips at the new rate or imply that the higher salary was paid throughout.

Build the reconciliation

Where a letter is wrong, request an accurate replacement from the employer. Preserve the correction record. The applicant should not modify an employer-signed document independently.

Distinguish a document error from a payment problem

A typing error in a letter is different from salary that was agreed but not paid. If a payroll or employment dispute exists, address it on its own facts. A more polished PR letter does not settle an unpaid entitlement.

Where income varies, explain the relevant components honestly. Avoid presenting a discretionary bonus or future projection as guaranteed recurring salary.

Use the application requirements without inventing a score

ICA assesses applications on the relevant circumstances. An adviser cannot promise a result from a particular salary figure. The purpose of reconciliation is to provide accurate evidence, not to manufacture an appearance of eligibility or success.

Review the employer letter’s date and the periods requested in the current checklist before uploading. An old letter with correct figures can still fail to meet a current-document requirement.

Keep the submitted version

Store the final letter, payslips and explanation together with the actual application record. If salary or employment changes while the application is pending, use the appropriate official update process. Retaining a new document in a private folder does not mean ICA has received it.

Must all payslips show exactly the same gross pay?

Genuine differences can arise. Explain their components and periods rather than forcing the documents to match artificially.

Does a higher salary guarantee PR?

No. Accurate financial evidence is one part of an application assessed by ICA.
