Most Singapore companies can get government grants for at least one of three things: projects (digitalisation, overseas expansion, innovation, energy savings), people (hiring, wages and training) and financing (government risk-shared loans). The main project grant is Enterprise Singapore’s EDGE Grant, which since 30 September 2026 has replaced EDG, PSG and MRA and pays up to 70% of costs for SMEs, capped at S$100,000 a year. Workforce grants come mainly from the Skills and Workforce Development Agency and IRAS, and sector agencies such as MAS, BCA, STB, NEA and MPA run their own schemes.
Raffles Corporate Services works with a panel of experienced Singapore law firms who offer cost-effective and efficient legal service and advice. This article is general information only and is not legal advice.

How do you find the right grant for your company?
Start from what you want to do, not from a scheme name. Singapore grants are organised by agency, but your project usually maps to one or two of them. Three official tools help:
- Business Grants Portal (BGP): the single application portal for EDGE, the Energy Efficiency Grant, the Workforce Development Grant (Job Redesign+), the BCA BETC Grant and many others. You log in with Corppass, and the company’s own authorised staff submit the application.
- GoBusiness e-Adviser for Government Assistance: a short questionnaire on the GoBusiness site that recommends schemes for your business needs, alongside a searchable directory of grants and support schemes.
- Agency pages: some schemes are not on BGP at all. MAS financial sector grants are applied for by email, STB tourism funds through STB, NEA’s 3R Fund by email to NEA, and SG Enable runs the Open Door Programme. Wage credits paid by IRAS are automatic.
Enterprise Singapore also offers free advice through SME Centres. If you would rather have one adviser look across every agency, see the free consultation offer at the end of this page.
What eligibility rules do most grants share?
Each scheme has its own rules, but these come up again and again:
- Registered and operating in Singapore. Almost every grant requires a Singapore-registered business entity with real operations here.
- At least 30% local shareholding for most Enterprise Singapore schemes, including EDGE, the Energy Efficiency Grant and the Enterprise Financing Scheme. This is measured by ultimate individual ownership by Singapore Citizens and PRs. Many workforce, MAS and EDB schemes do not have this requirement, so wholly foreign-owned companies still have options.
- SME status. The usual definition is group annual sales of up to S$100 million or group employment of up to 200 workers. SMEs normally get higher rates.
- Do not start before you apply. EDGE treats an application as retrospective, and will not support it, if work has started or any payment or deposit was made before submission. STB, BCA, PUB and NEA apply similar rules. Signing a contract, paying a deposit or issuing a purchase order can all count as starting.
- The company applies itself. Under EDGE, vendors and consultants cannot submit applications, change requests or claims for you. A consultant can help you prepare, but your own Corppass users submit.
- No double funding. The same cost cannot be claimed under two schemes.
- Claims come after payment. Most grants reimburse costs you have already paid in full, so plan the cash flow.
Our guide to grant eligibility for business owners explains these tests in more detail.

Schemes that have closed or been replaced
Many older articles and vendor brochures still describe these schemes as open. They are not.
| Scheme | What happened | Use instead |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise Development Grant (EDG), Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG), Market Readiness Assistance (MRA) | Ceased on 29 September 2026; no new applications. Approved projects still run to completion and claim under the original rules. | EDGE Grant |
| PSG Job Redesign | Replaced from March 2026 | Workforce Development Grant (Job Redesign+) |
| SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit (current tranche) | Unused credit expires on 30 November 2026 and does not roll over | SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit (Enhanced) from 1 December 2026 |

How do you apply, step by step?
- Define the project and the outcome, for example “cut order processing time by half” or “enter the Vietnamese market”, and list the costs.
- Match the costs to schemes using the tables above, and check the scheme’s own eligibility page.
- Get quotations before committing. Do not sign, pay a deposit or start work until the application is submitted, or approved where the scheme requires approval first.
- Set up Corppass roles for the staff who will prepare and submit on the Business Grants Portal.
- Submit with complete documents: quotations, proposal, latest financial statements and any scheme-specific forms.
- After approval, follow the letter of offer. Keep within scope and timeline, use the approved vendor, and raise change requests before changing anything.
- Pay in full, then claim with invoices, proof of payment and any required audit or outcome report.
For what happens after approval, see our guide to claims, compliance and audits after a grant is approved. To combine schemes without double funding, read how to stack Singapore government grants, and for the accounting and tax position, our guide to the tax treatment of government grants.
Example: one company, four schemes
Example (hypothetical): A Singapore-owned distributor with 40 staff plans three things for 2027: new inventory software, a sales office in Malaysia and better pay for warehouse staff. The software is a pre-approved single-function solution under EDGE, within the S$30,000 sub-cap. The Malaysia set-up is an EDGE internationalisation activity at up to 70%, which shares the same S$100,000 annual EDGE cap. A Singaporean sales manager posted to Kuala Lumpur may qualify for the Overseas Markets Immersion Programme. The warehouse pay rises may be co-funded automatically under the Progressive Wage Credit Scheme if they meet IRAS’s conditions. Nothing is signed or paid until the EDGE applications are submitted.
Frequently asked questions
Can a foreign-owned Singapore company get grants?
Yes, but not all of them. EDGE, the Energy Efficiency Grant and EFS need at least 30% local shareholding. Many workforce schemes, wage credits and MAS and EDB schemes do not, so a wholly foreign-owned company should look at those first.
Is PSG still available?
No. PSG, EDG and MRA stopped taking applications after 29 September 2026. Pre-approved digital solutions and equipment are now funded under EDGE, within a S$30,000 sub-cap.
Can I apply after I have already paid a deposit?
Generally not. EDGE treats an application as retrospective if any work, payment or deposit came before submission, and will not support it. Other agencies have similar rules.
Can a consultant submit the application for us?
Not under EDGE. Only the company’s own authorised staff, with Corppass Business Grants Portal roles, can submit applications, change requests and claims. A consultant can help you prepare.
Do I need to apply for wage credits?
Mostly no. The Senior Employment Credit, CPF Transition Offset, Enabling Employment Credit and Progressive Wage Credit Scheme are paid automatically by IRAS when the conditions are met. The Uplifting Employment Credit may need an application, depending on how the ex-offender was hired, so check the IRAS scheme page.
Are grants taxable?
It depends on the grant and on what it pays for. Our guide to the tax treatment of government grants, linked above, explains the general rules; confirm the position for each grant with your tax adviser.
Where can I check the official rules?
Start with the Enterprise Singapore EDGE Grant page, the GoBusiness grants directory and the Business Grants Portal, then the agency page for each scheme linked in the guides above.
Information checked against official sources on 6 November 2026.
